Linda and Rudy Horlbeck raise alpacas on Merry Hill Farm in the Montgomery County town of Florida. Alpacas are gentle animals, originally from South America, and were imported into this country in the 80’s and 90’s for their exceptionally fine, soft fleece. The alpacas are shorn once a year in the Spring, and their fiber is available raw for hand spinning and felting, and also as spun yarn and hand knitted items.
Linda has been a knitter for years, and began hand spinning a couple of years ago. Her hand spun yarn and knitted items have received first place ribbons at the annual alpaca fleece event sponsored by the Empire Alpaca Association in New York State. Items on display at the Shoppe include alpaca yarn in natural or hand dyed colors, socks, gloves, hats and scarves. Also available by request is a selection of raw fleece and carded fiber in natural colors for spinning or felting.
