Below, you will find the most commonly asked questions we receive about becoming a vendor with Olde Main Street Shoppes, Inc. If you don't find an answer to your question below, feel free to contact us.
We consider “local” to be within 100 miles of our hometown of Fultonville, NY, and will happily accept anything within that range. Within 25 miles is our goal.
No, at this time OMSS does not buy merchandise outright. We do, however, sometimes agree to consignment arrangements, depending on the merchandise in question.
We aim for items produced or services offered locally, and beyond that we have very few limits (although we are subject to government regulation). We currently house crafts, jewelry, preserves, artwork, books, toys, yarn, knitwear, and collectibles. We hope to soon provide music, produce, seeds, baked goods, furniture, clothing, soaps, cards, gift wrap, and much more.
At this time, we are unable to accept eggs, dairy, or meat (although we plan to soon). We will not sell firearms or tobacco products. We will not sell any items that we consider to be morally inappropriate.
When we first envisioned this storefront, an old-fashioned general store came to mind. While it has more modern-day items in it, it still has an old-timey feel. If anything, we are hoping for “warm,” “comfortable,” “home,” and “roots.”
Our hours are currently Wed-Thu 3pm-7pm, Fri 11am-7pm, Sat 9am-6pm, Sun 9am-1pm. We are closed Mondays and Tuesdays.
If you are just coming to look around, you need not bring anything with you, except maybe a business card, and paper and pen for notes (our shop often spurs ideas in others who have a creative mindset). If you are planning to sign a lease agreement for a space, you would also need to bring your tax ID number and money to pay for the first month’s rent (cash or check only). (If you process food items, you also need to bring a copy of your processing license.) If you plan to set up your space right away, you also need to bring your merchandise and any display pieces you plan to use, and you might like to bring a camera.
We prefer our vendors to set up when customer traffic is slow, or by appointment at a time when we are normally closed. The best times are: during bad weather, Saturdays after 4, Sundays, and weekdays after 5. We do have customers at these times, but traffic is usually slower then, and setup would be less likely to cause distraction.
We offer single shelves, drawers, bins, racks, or counter spaces. We also offer whole “sections” (while they last!), most of which are 10’H x 3’10”W, and include 5 or more 1’D shelves, 2.5’D counter space, drawers, and 2’ deep additional floor space. Additionally, we offer 6.5’ x 5’ floor spaces down the center of our store (if you have larger objects or prefer to provide your own display units), and open wallspace in a variety of sizes for hanging items. Some electrical outlets are available for use. (A floorplan layout of available spaces can be found in-store and online.)
Our prices vary based on size and accessibility. For single shelves, drawers, bins, and small racks, our prices generally range from $10-25 per month (most popular is $25). Counter spaces range from $25-45 per month. Whole sections, floor sections, and wall sections range from $60-150 per month (average section is $100).
No, we offer straight rental costs OR straight percentage on consignment, but they are not combined.
